Pontypridd Town

On the 14th of January 2010 there was a notice of election issued, as following a Plaid resignation there was to be a by-election for the Pontypridd Town Ward on Pontypridd Town Council. On the 18th of January I became the second candidate in the by-election when I handed in all of my completed forms.

In the month that followed I spent £5 on paper on which to print my propaganda, and delivered around 500 copies to homes in the ward, abetted in this task by my partner Sarah and hindered in this task by my printer’s duplex abilities being limited to providing a service similar to a paper shedder.

On the 18th of February (almost as an echo of conditions one month earlier) Ponty was graced with an outpouring of snow and generally dull and cold weather.  It is my humble opinion that this may have reduced the turn out for the election; ultimatly only 514 votes were cast.

The result of the election was as follows:

BEECH Mark William The Official Monster Raving Loony Party 30
JONES Clayton Francis Plaid Cymru – The Party Of Wales 100
PRICE Philip Welsh Liberal Democrats / Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru 196
THOMAS Lynda The Labour Party Candidate 188

The result was declared a little before 2300, and I then retired to the Otley Arms to break the news to my adoring fans.

This is a massive Total (I estimate) of around 6.18% of the total Vote. This if transfered to the up and coming genmeral election will mean a massive upset to the Established Political parties.
    Well Done Mark

I was a little upset to be so far off the pace, until on of my friends on Facebook pointed out that it was still over 5%, which I everyone thinks is a good start, especialy when you consider that I know only one person who lived in that ward.
Onwards and upwards now, time to start working on going down south to Cardiff for the general election.
